• User Interface: The device features a simple, two-button operation (On/Off and Shock) with clear voice and text prompts to guide users through the rescue process.

• SMART Biphasic Therapy: The FR2+ uses Philips' patented high-current, low-energy biphasic waveform technology, which is clinically proven to be effective while minimizing harm to a fragile heart.

• SMART CPR and Quick Shock: The SMART CPR algorithm helps determine if CPR is needed before a shock. The Quick Shock feature minimizes the time between chest compressions and shock delivery, a critical factor for survival.

• Patient Adaptability: It can be used on both adults and children. Special infant/child pads (sold separately) are available which automatically reduce the shock energy to an appropriate level for patients under 8 years old or weighing less than 55 pounds (25 kg).

• Self-Testing: The device performs over 80 automatic daily, weekly, and monthly self-tests of its internal circuitry, battery, and pads to ensure it is always ready for use. A visible status indicator shows readiness at a glance.

• Portability and Durability: The is compact, lightweight (around 4.7 lbs or 2.1 kg with battery), and built with a rugged design to withstand tough handling and environmental conditions, including resistance to dust and water (IP54 rating).

• Data Management: An optional data card allows for recording up to 8 hours of patient ECG and incident information, which can be reviewed later for quality control and reporting using HeartStart Event Review software.

• Display Options: The device is available in two models: one with a text-only display (M3861A) and another with both text and an ECG display (M3860A) for professional responders. The ECG display model also offers a manual mode option for advanced life support (ALS) trained professionals.

• Battery Life: It uses a long-life, non-rechargeable lithium manganese dioxide battery with a typical standby life of 4 years or a capacity of 300 shocks/12 hours of operating time. A rechargeable battery option is also available. 

Maintenance and Accessories: The Philips HeartStart FR2+ is designed to be virtually maintenance-free, primarily requiring the replacement of the battery and electrode pads when they expire or after use.

• Pads: Adult and infant/child defibrillator pads have an expiration date (typically 2 years) and should be replaced accordingly.

• Battery: The disposable battery has an "install-by" date on the label and should be replaced when the device alerts for a low battery.
• Training: The device can be converted into a non-shocking training unit using a specific training and administration pack and pads, offering various training scenarios.
