Medtronic TY-CARE Exel Closed Suction Systems for Adult

Closed airway suction system: Repeated endotracheal suctioning performed with conventional disposable catheters involves disconnection of the patient from the ventilator – a procedure which is not without complications and risks. Especially in patients depending on high PEEP levels or suffering from haemodynamic instability, interruption of ventilation can lead to: – arterial and mixed venous oxygen desaturation – loss of lung volume – alveolar derecruitment in hypoxemic patients – increase in mean arterial pressure and heart rate TY-CARE, TY-CARE exel and TY-CARE Neo/Ped are designed to remain part of the breathing system during suctioning without disconnecting ventilatory support and thus maintaining respiratory parameters.

Superior hygiene and protection: Open suctioning exposes both the patient and the hospital staff to the risk of cross-contamination. TY-CARE, TY-CARE exel and TY-CARE exel Neo/Ped closed suction systems protect patient’s airway from environmental pathogens and prevents hospital staff from exposure to aerosolized germs expelled by the patient during open suctioning. This is particularly important for infective and immunodepressed patients. Rotating patient access valve: TY-CARE exel patient access valve enables the complete isolation of the sleeved suction catheter from the patient’s airway when suctioning is not required, thus maintaining ventilation and preventing inadvertent lavage. The light-weight and clear components of the access valve allow to clearly identify when the device is in the open/closed position for an increased ease of use.

Replaceable catheter: TY-CARE exel suction catheter can be detached and replaced whilst maintaining a closed circuit without the need to discard the whole system

Fiberoptic bronchoscophy and mucus sampling in a closed system: thanks to the detachable suction catheter and a sterile self-sealing cap included in the packaging, TY-CARE exel maintains system integrity during procedures such as fiberoptic bronchoscopy and mucus sampling. The self-sealing cap accommodates different sized bronchoscopes (up to 6 mm diameter).

TY-CARE: Tyco closed suction system range also features a more traditional version: TY-CARE. TY-CARE does have most of the TY-CARE exel features except for the rotating patient access valve and detachable catheter.

COMPLETE ISOLATION: rotating patient access valve (available only for TY-CARE exel): it enables the complete isolation of the sleeved suction catheter from the patient’s airway when suctioning is not required and maintains a closed system also during bronchoscopy and specimen sampling.

No leakage no contamination: a one-way valve in the irrigation port located on the DSE allows lavage and irrigation without leakage of ventilation and secretions.

ATRAUMATIC DUAL DENSITY SUCTION CATHETER: the flexible, ultrasoft and rounded distal tip of TY-CARE suction catheter reduces possible lesions of the tracheal mucosa, while the firmer proximal portion allows easy manipulation of the suction catheter via the protective sleeve

Superior rinsing efficiency: closed system suction catheters are designed for multiple use on a single patient. The rinsing efficiency of the system is therefore of crucial importance. The unique geometry of the rinsing chamber enables a more effective cleaning of the catheter tip and a higher removal of residual secretions. Only with TY-CARE exel, the suction catheter is fully isolated from the patient’s airway and ventilation pressures are not affected by suctioning vacuum during lavages.

Depth measurement: catheter with all-round depth markings in centimetres that allow easy measurement of proper catheter insertion in the trachea.
